The database I am using is very simple. It consists of four tables: customers, orders, products, and an order details table. The trick that we are going to use is to create a form with a specific structure. This form will not allow editing because we don't want to assign a new customer to an existing order ID. However, when adding a new order, the order ID will automatically be generated as it is an auto number. You just need to select the company associated with that order, and the form will automatically populate with the customer's information. This form simplifies the process of data entry. Creating this simple form does not require the use of Visual Basic. One of the tricks is to include a customer ID in the order table using a lookup form. This is done by using the lookup wizard and selecting a combo with a table query source type. The query behind the combo includes the customer ID and company name in ascending order. This ensures that the options are displayed alphabetically. The next step involves creating a query with the desired form structure. The query should include the customers table and the orders table. The first field should be the order ID from the orders table (which is an auto number), and the second field should be the customer ID from the orders table. Save the query and then proceed to create the form. You can use the form wizard and select the query you just created. Move all the fields into the form, and proceed without grouping the data by customers. Give the form a name, such as "orders," and finish creating it.
