Hi, my name is Hugo and I'm a customer support agent here at Brother. In this session, we're going to learn how to scan using the OCR function available in your Control Center application. OCR stands for optical character recognition. Basically, this allows you to take a simple typed or tabled document, scan it into your computer, and then make changes to it using a word processing software like Microsoft Word or Notepad. This option can only be used if the scanned software, PaperPort, was installed from the CD-ROM provided with your multifunction unit. So, let's get started. You'll need to place the document you want to scan in the feeder or directly on the large glass. We will use the installed Control Center application to launch the scan. Once that's done, click the Start menu button on your computer, go to All Programs or Programs, look for the Brother folder, and click on it. Then, click on your machine's model number and open the Control Center program that was provided with it. You might be using Control Center 2, 3, or 4. If you're using Control Center 4, chances are you'll be prompted to choose a mode. So, if that's the case, choose the Advanced mode and click OK. You should get a screen that looks like mine. Once you're here, make sure you click on the Scan tab at the top left. To start the scan, click on the OCR button once you have it. We've successfully scanned a document to OCR. You can now modify your document, save it, print it out, or send it out by email. Contrary to a PDF document, you can now modify the document.
