You hi! This is Mike, a ver. Thank you for asking me. What is a field interrogation? Field interrogation is essentially on-the-street questioning without Miranda. It happens oftentimes with juveniles and suspected gang members. Cops will stop them for a variety of reasons and then seek to identify them, as well as record and preserve the information in their records. So, such things as the date, time, location, the purpose of the stop, the circumstances surrounding it, as well as the identity and identifying characteristics of the subject are recorded and preserved on what's called a field interrogation card. Unfortunately, many cops abuse this investigative tool, and many citizens do not understand the right to refuse to answer police questions. Still, your best bet is always to be polite and not have an attitude with the cops. Show them your identification and advise that it's nothing personal, but unless you happen to be calling them for help, you don't want to speak with them about anything. In other words, don't incriminate yourself and don't give them any excuse to make up anything and arrest you. Thank you for your question. I hope that I've answered it. I invite you to submit more. Please remember Michael A. Haber, PA. It's all about reasonable doubt.
